I've seen Freedom Writers twice and each time it makes me cry. There is pain in life. Death, life unwanted, gangs, being left out, hearing hurtful words, etc. etc. etc. The teacher of the story wants so badly to teach! To give the gift of knowledge. But then realizes that her class is not only anywhere close to grade level, they hate her and being in school. But Ms. G (as the kids call her) figures out that if she gives them a voice and cares for them, that she can give them knowledge, their own voice, and courage to live their lives. The students respond. They are longing for love.
I've read my Bible a lot and some times it makes me cry. There is pain in life. Death, life unwanted, gangs, being left out, hearing hurtful words, etc. etc. etc. The Teacher of the story wants so badly to teach! To give the gift of knowledge about His glory. But He knows that His people are not only anywhere close to being holy, they hate Him and being in the world. But Jesus (as I call Him) knows that if He IS the voice and cares for them, that He can give them knowledge about His kingdom, a voice to talk to God, and courage to live this life to it's fullest. The people have a choice to respond. They too are longing for love.
